DEBATE TEAM CRUSHES RED HOOK

March 22, 2019

At this year’s High School Bard Debate on March 1st, RHS’s team crushed the competition.

Only five of the participants had ever debated in a tournament before, and yet the majority of the fifteen students left the auditorium with an award.

Last year, RHS’s Debate team members were inexperienced competitors, beaten and slightly humiliated by the vicious Red Hook teams. This year almost every single speaker was able to wipe the smiles off the Red Hook teams’ faces.

In a stunning victory, RHS won four out of five best team awards, and five out of ten best speaker awards.
One of the presidents of the club, Libby Mensch, took home the overall best speaker award. Her team, consisting also of Colin Murray and Sarah Tobias won the best overall team award.

Best speaker awards were also given to Kaya Binetti, Sofia Quon, and Colin Murray. Additional Best Team awards were received by Kaya Binetti, Esther Murray, and Juliet Murray; Sofia Quon, Max Kaplan, and Beatrix Briggs. Libby Callahan, Emily Miller, and Claire Mensch won second best team. Congratulations to all!
