Little Shop of Horrors: A Smash Hit on Skid Row
If you didn’t get a chance to see the show this weekend, you missed out!
Little Shop of Horrors showcased the vast talents of many RHS students in a colorful, edgy plot.
Jonah Carleton played Seymour Krelborn, whose “strange and interesting” plant brings success to Mr. Mushnik’s (Khedup Lodoe) flower store, but unfortunately thrives only on human blood.
His beloved Audrey, played by Elena Raccuia, dreams of leaving Skid Row to live “somewhere that’s green,” but an abusive boyfriend Orin (Ian Cho) stands in the way.
Cameron Cantine, the voice of the man-eating plant, and Charlie Derbyshire, its body, worked together to create a hilarious and horrible villain.
Crystal (Makena Jackson), Ronnette (Talulah Patch), and Chiffon (Sarah Palastra) sang to narrate the plot, and ensemble and company parts often took center stage to portray inhabitants of Skid Row.
Besides creating a gorgeously gothic comedy, members of the cast depicted the very real issue of domestic violence.
Thanks to members of the cast, GSA and Gender Equity Clubs, representatives from the Grace Smith House were present to provide information at a table in the auditorium lobby.
Leaflets with tips on preventing unhealthy or violent relationships were also included in the program.
Congratulations to Director Kevin Archambault, the Drama Club, the cast, musicians, and crew for their theatrical triumph.
