The 2024-25 girls varsity basketball team is one to be reckoned with. This year’s team, led by Coach Burg, brings a mix of seasoned veterans and new players. The start to the season hasn’t been what they planned, but with each the team is getting better. Viewing the statistics in their most recent games the team has been averaging fewer turn-overs, more rebounds, and more overall points.

Over the past few years the program hasn’t had much interest here at Rhinebeck. This year the program has 3 strong teams from modified to varsity. Already the shift in interest helped the program tremendously. With more girls to play this year it ensures that the program will get better with time. The program had a large window with no girls varsity team. With the increase in interest at Rhinebeck the program was able to come up with a strong girls varsity team starting last year.
The team shows what it is like to have great team chemistry throughout the whole season. The 24’-25’ girls varsity basketball team is the a perfect example of what it means to be a team. Working together through the wins and loses with a positive and impactful attitude. With this year’s team getting better with every game we are positive that in the next few years we will be bringing home a sectional title.
In talking to the Rhinebeck girls Basketball captains/seniors, Melkitu Dentico and Amanda O’han, they expressed “So far the season’s been pretty good. I feel like we definitely play hard every game and have fun! It’s nice to see our improvement and how we play better as a team” said Dentico. Additionally we are thrilled to see that throughout the season our team come together making it a positive season for our seniors last season playing basketball at Rhinebeck.

The coach: Marc Burg has been coaching for over 30 years. Coach Burg put a lot of time and effort into making this program something really great and one that the Rhinebeck school district so be very proud of. Coach Burg says 3 words that I don’t think the team will ever forget; commit, compete, and defend. Those three words have really shaped the team and will forever impact the team with a positive influence to play as one.
