The B-Sides of Art
You know the songs that you like from a known artists that people don’t know about?
The paintings you see here are like those songs, lesser known works from famous painters.
Daddy Longlegs of the Evening-Hope! was painted in the year 1940 by Salvador Dali. The medium is oil paint on canvas. This surreal painting is based on an old French peasant legend which says if a spider is seen in the evening it means good luck. For more information, check out the Dali Museum.
Mysteries of the Horizon was painted in the year 1955 by René Magritte. The medium is oil paint on canvas. The three figures are sharing the same space but are in their own separate worlds, which makes it hard to tell where one figure’s sky is a part of the another’s.
Road with Cypress and Star was painted in oil on canvas in the year 1890 by Vincent Van Gogh. According to my research, it represents Van Gogh’s feeling of dying earlier than expected. The two figures of travelers are involved in a journey, a path to eternity.
These are some of my favorite paintings and, although they’re “B” sides, I think they should be just as appreciated as the more popular ones.
