“The Princess Bride” (1987) Review

With a great cast and something for every member of the family to enjoy, The Princess Bride is a fun watch and a personal favorite of mine. Through the words of a grandfather reading a book to his sick grandson laying in bed, we see the story of two young people’s indomitable “true love,” set in a medieval landscape with marvelous heroes and perfectly hatable villains. This storybook parody puts a comedic twist on classic, old-fashioned romance in the form of modern humor combined with traditional tropes. As an audience member, the fun one can imagine these actors had in the making of this film is evident, and gives the watching experience a certain refreshing uniqueness and charm.

Although it plays with classical adventure and romance, it still comes to a satisfying conclusion in the way that a timeless fairy tale often does.
