“Hidden Figures” (2016) Review
The 2016 movie, Hidden Figures, tells the story of three brilliant African-American women, Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), working behind the scenes at NASA working to accomplish the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. An amazing accomplishment that stunned the nation and turned around the Space Race. Referred to as “human computers”, these mathematicians pushed hard to achieve big in a field dominated by white men. Hidden Figures is a true story and is an empowering and eye-opening view of the struggles women face in a male-dominated work field, especially at that time. It reveals the unknown names of the hardworking people who achieved the great task of sending a man into orbit.
Overall, it’s a 10/10 because the perseverance of these women makes it a great film to experience.
