The Boys’ Varsity soccer team has their senior night this afternoon, 10/9. Underclassmen will give speeches about their senior teammates before the game’s kickoff. Then, you can expect photos and a cake once the game is over.
The Girls’ Varsity senior night is this Saturday, 10/11, at 10:30, with the same schedule as the boys’.
With senior nights fast approaching, now is the perfect time for a quick summary of the soccer season so far.
Although the school year has only just begun, our soccer athletes have been training since August in preparation for the fall sports season.
Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity soccer teams have one goal in mind this year: Sectionals.
Sectionals is a series of matches that determines which team from a specific section will move onto higher-level games. Once you lose a game, your season is over. This makes Sectionals especially important to seniors, whose high school careers end once the season does.
The boys are hoping to win Sectionals again after beating Burke Catholic last year, while the girls seek redemption after a devastating overtime loss in the finals, also against Burke.
Some of our girls’ wins include beating Saugerites 1-0, shutting out Highland with a 6-0 win, and defeating Dover 2-1 in overtime. They lost to Spackenkill with a 2-1 score.
As for the boys, they also fell to Spackenkill, with a score of 1-0. They’ve crushed Millbrook, however, scoring an impressive 7 goals to Millbrook’s nil in not one, but two games. They beat Webutuck (1-0) and Highland (3-0).
