It’s Tea Time… So, Spill It.

Hi Earl Grey,
I am a new student at RHS. At my old school, I had a lot of friends, but here I don’t feel like I have anyone to talk to. It seems like everyone has a friend group except me. What should I do?
From,
New Student

Hello New Student!

I thank you so much for your submission and I’m sure other new students will thank you as well.

Every new year of high school I sometimes feel like a new student. I am put in classes with many people I don’t know, and even though I still usually have at least a few familiar faces, it can be daunting to start a new year with new people. So my advice to you is not so much advice but an affirmation.

I know it feels like you have no one to talk, to and you may not right now, but give it time.

Every year I make new friends and lose others. The people I have classes with ultimately become my new friends, simply because I spend more and more time with them. I am confident you will find your niche with more time.

If I had to give you any instructions, which is after all, my job,  I would say, join the clubs and activities you are interested in; people who are like you will be there too.

Now a message for all the returning students: Take a new student under your wing, it might be the start of something great.  Even if it’s not, you can rest well knowing you gave someone a person to talk you while they were finding their crowd.

In solidarity,

Earl Grey
