APRIL FOOLS: Mr. Phelan to Become Full Time Mascot
Mr. Phelan, superintendent of over 20 years, rotarian, and friend to the friendless has permanently changed our school community for the better. But he’s not ready to stop just yet.
Even though he is retiring his current position, Mr. Phelan will return next school year in the newly created, full time position: Mascot. His new, self appointed duties, all of which will be completed in full mascot attire, include: Make decisions regarding school cancellations and delays, oversee capital projects and other budgetary matters, work with the BOE in a productive, collaborative manner, supervise the staff and faculty of CLS, BMS, and RHS, and of course, appear at pep rallies and sports events.
We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Phelan back in his new, suspiciously powerful position.

Jonah,
I really wish that you hadn’t let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, so prematurely. However, I have made no secret of the fact that my wife and I plan to continue to live in the Rhinebeck area for the foreseeable future. As a continuing member of the Rhinebeck-area community and as a taxpayer, my intent is to stay interested in and connected with our community and our school district upon my retirement.
I intend to remain active in the Rotary Club of Rhinebeck and as an advisor to the Interact Club, as well as with the other community service-oriented activities that I enjoy immensely. I’m even considering several other areas of involvement in terms of community service, as well as personal and professional interests, with more discretionary time and flexibility in my future.
However, the new full-time position of mascot will certainly be an invigorating, if not challenging, role to assume upon retirement, especially following on the heels of the exceptional job done by this year’s mascot. However, I will still need to re-negotiate the considerable job duties, especially that part about about making decisions about school cancellations and delays, which seems to have been slipped in when I wasn’t looking. Regardless, thanks for the vote of confidence!
