Community Star Art Contest

The Mission
This is a call for youth and adults to submit artwork that reflects a message of hope, interdependence, and community engagement. It is an opportunity to think critically about collective experiences with the pandemic, and how we might spark joy and motivation to care for our neighbors. Artists’ creative expression will light up the lives of local nursing home residents through the long winter months.
PROMPT: Create artwork using the Sinterklaas Star as a symbol of community, shining through this winter’s challenges.
5 WINNERS: 1 per category PRIZE: $200 gift card for local shops
SUGGESTED SIZE: (but not restricted to) 8.5” x 11”
MEDIUM: Any (paint, pen, crayon, photograph, collage, pastel, pencil, mixed medium, graphics, poetry, song, video, etc.)
WHO CAN ENTER: Category 1: Elementary School, Category 2: Middle School, Category 3: High School, Category 4: College, Category 5: Adults
DISPLAY: Submissions will be displayed at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck and the Reinassance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Staatsburg and can also be found in the Starr Library online gallery.
