Shelby Hauptman, Class of 2012, is Rhinebeck’s new Micro Tech Computer Specialist.
Hauptman spends her days making sure Rhinebeck tech runs smoothly. One day she might be assisting faculty with setting up new technology; another she’s fixing bugs in a student’s laptop.
One day, students and teachers were gathered in the Writing Center when Sarah Wheeler (12th grade English Teacher) needed help with a new instructional screen in the Writing Center. Wheeler sent in a work order for assistance. To the room’s surprise, Hauptman showed up as fast as light wearing rainbow tie-dye shoes.
“I got a work order that someone needed help so I ran down as fast as I could,” Hauptman said.
“Someone write an article on this woman!” Wheeler said
Shelby has always had a passion for technology.
“After I built my first PC at 17, I knew this was something I wanted to pursue,” said Hauptman.
As a Rhinebeck High School alumni of 2012, Shelby never actually took a computer science course, as Rhinebeck didn’t have one available for her.
While in high school Hauptman ended up looking towards Michelle Raimondi, one of Rhinebeck’s current staff for guidance.
Shelby attended Dutchess Community College majoring in computer science. While she was working at Northern Dutchess Hospital she saw that Rhinebeck had an opening. Hauptman knew it was the right decision and was even more pleased to find out that Michele Raimondi was back in town.
Michele Raimondi fondly reminisced about Hauptman.
“I have known Shelby since she was a student here in the Rhinebeck District. Her love of technology has followed her since then.”
If you want to go visit Hauptman, it could be time to get out your map. Shelby spends her days in her office near the BMS Cafe. Take a sharp left as you approach the Cafe, and just after you get past the loading dock, make a sharp right. You’ll first see Katherine Mustello hard at work. Look to your left and you’ll find Hauptman sitting next to Michele Raimondi.
Please give Hauptman a warm hawk welcome as she gets settled at Rhinebeck!
