Katie Anderson, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, invited Board of Education members to the grand opening of the Innovation Hub, a place for inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary STEM-related activities.
“The HUB is a physical space and a platform for creativity and innovation. It’s a place where students can explore, experiment, and bring their ideas to life,” said Katie Anderson.
Ryne Anthony helped introduce teachers to the new space. Anthony, co-founder and director of design firm Fluxspace, has designed and built innovation hubs in many different schools so students can step out of their comfort zones and push innovation to new heights.
Principles of engineering students were asked to display their projects during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for BOE members and others in the school community.
“I hope I convinced a girl in middle school to take engineering in high school,” said Annika Haile.
Many different classes will be able to gain hands-on learning from this space. Anderson is designing a sign-out process to ensure that the HUB is open for classes to collaborate and create.
