Going into the season the boys soccer team had high expectations.
“I try to be humble but I believe that our team has a good chance of winning sectionals” Said Coach Justin Wisenthal was asked if he believes that the boys soccer team will be 1st in sectionals.
The boys soccer team, led by captains Brady Fisher and Parker Ruger, had a really successful season, ending with a record of 15-2-2 and a sectional championship, reclaiming their crown from two years ago. They went through the season in dominating action, scoring 60 more goals than their opponents. Because of this, they qualified for MHALS by winning their league, but they unfortunately lost their first MHALS game, kicking them out in the first round. Spurred on from this disappointment, they convincingly won their first sectional game 4-1, beating Chester and continued the form by defeating Burke Catholic in the sectional final 5-0; winning something they couldn’t the year before: a sectional championship. Unfortunately the boys team lost 2-0 to North Salem to end their season in the first regional game.
“I thought we had a good season, we won the section, I think we could’ve worked a bit harder in the pre season” Captain Parker Ruger exclaimed when asked what he wanted going into the season and asked if he thinks that his team could have performed better.
It is always tough to lose that far in, but it was a season to remember for the Boys Varsity Soccer Team.
