How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) Film Review

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) takes place in Whoville, a town full of small creatures that hold a boatload of holiday cheer. Meanwhile, in the mountain landscape, a green, vengeful monster known as the Grinch swears revenge on the town, as he despises their Christmas spirit. The movie is a live-action rendition of the 60s cartoon with a similar plot to the original. However, the movie offers additional lore and backstory to the one-dimensional tale. Worldbuilding is also an obvious and new component that was implemented into this movie. At the helm of the Grinch is legendary actor, Jim Carrey. His performance is unmatched as the villain, as he gives one of his best comedic roles of all time under nearly 90 pounds of makeup. The energy that he brings to the movie sets it at a new standard for Christmas movies. While most critics think the movie is sloppy and unfinished, I think there are a lot of positives and joys that can be taken from the film. A nostalgic Christmas classic mixed with unforgettable performances, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a wacky, weird, wholesome holiday movie.

I give How the Grinch Stole Christmas a flat 7/10.
