"Avatar" (2009) Film review

Jake Sully, a former marine, is sent to Pandora in place of his brother. Piloting an Avatar, which is created using a mix of DNA of the Na’vi and Humans, Jake slowly begins to love the world of Pandora. Eventually amid rising tensions between the Humans and the Na’vi, Jake has to protect the nature and people of Pandora from the humans’ destruction .

The winner of the 82nd Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effect, and Best Art Direction as well as the winner of the 67th Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director. Avatar had been nominated for many more awards and managed to win a BAFTA (British Academy Film and Television Arts)

Directed by James Cameron, the movie had used much more advanced CGI than what was used at the time and it was amazing within the film itself. It gave the Na’vi people and Pandora’s creatures  a realistic look that almost made it seem as if it were really shot within that world. Part of this is why I think it’s such a success. It’s so visually stunning and when paired with the soundtrack, It’s even more of a masterpiece than it already is.

The soundtrack alone is amazing, but it really gives insight to the Na’vi world which James Horner had managed to capture so perfectly. The music definitely adds to many of the thematic elements of Avatar

With a budget of $237 million, Avatar had managed to make $2.9 Billion in the Box Office which includes its recent re-release earnings.  It won many more awards and honors. I give the movie an 10/10 for everything within it.
