RHS September Teacher Spotlight: Destrange Returns!

This year Rhinebeck Reality will be highlighting our teachers every month. Our first official teacher spotlight is Mrs. Destrange!

After a maternity break last spring, Destrange is back and ready to teach some history.

I asked her what it was like coming back after a long break from working.

“I was very excited to come back because I genuinely love my coworkers and enjoy teaching highschoolers,” she replied.

This isn’t the first time she has left and returned to Rhinebeck High School. She also attended RHS as a student. After getting her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Vassar and her master’s in history from Bard, she returned to Rhinebeck to teach at her alma mater.

“I was super excited to get the job but It did feel weird to be working with my former teachers like Mr. Welch,” she says.

We all know and love Mrs. Destrange (née Serkowski) for her dedication to her students and her love of history memes. With lighthearted sarcasm, she keeps her classroom lively and interesting for students.

Thank you Mrs. Destrange for being such a great teacher who always cares about us!

And congratulations to the Destranges for the new addition to their family: Hope Destrange!

Mrs. Detrange is Rhinebeck Reality’s September Teacher Spotlight.

If you would like to nominate a teacher for October, fill out a slip in the Cafeteria or in Ms. Wheeler’s room.
