Tea Time: Connecting with a Teacher

Tea Time: Connecting with a Teacher

What do I do if I have trouble connecting with a teacher?

Dear Anonymous,

It’s a terrible feeling when you feel like you can’t connect with a teacher. And unfortunately, there is no foolproof way to do so.

Teachers are people, and there are some people who you just may not jive with. You’ll connect with some, and you won’t with others.

Try to focus on creating a few strong bonds with teachers you feel more comfortable with and you know have a positive opinion of you.

To connect with a teacher, make sure you are putting in an effort in their class, acting interested and engaged, actively participating, and ask for help whenever you need it. If you have not already, sign up for their class or join their club. The rest should come naturally.

Try not to put pressure on yourself to create a bond with every teacher you have.  Some teachers may not be as interested in personal connections, and you have to respect that. But most teachers, I’m sure, find it to be the most gratifying part of their job.

Sincerely,
