“Avatar” (2009) Review
Avatar came out in 2009 it won 31 awards some for being Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Special Visual Effects, Best Editing and more. This film is groundbreaking in CGI. and it is rated PG-13.
Taking place in a foreign planet (Pandora), which has a special mineral (Unobtanium) that sells for millions, the human air force is trying to take over the planet to mine for it. On Pandora there is an alien species “na’vi” which are 10ft tall humanoid creatures. To learn more about these na’vi, scientists in a lab mix human DNA and na’vi DNA to grow an “avatar” of a na’vi which when in a machine the sole of the person that transfers into the avatar’s body and becomes a fully functioning na’vi. A war breaks out as the na’vi try to save their planet.
A lot of the technology used was a virtual camera system. A new way of directing motion-capture filmmaking. The system shows the actors’ virtual character in their digital surroundings in real time, allowing the director to adjust and direct scenes just as if shooting live action. In the movie there are lots of emotions including loyalty, betrayal, happiness, suspense, and hope.
I highly recommend this movie for mostly all age groups, though there are some explicit words. I would rate this movie a 10/10.
