“Never Rarely Sometimes Always” (2020) Review
Eliza Hittman’s Never Rarely Sometimes Always is an intimate look inside women’s healthcare, friendship, and the strain of sexual trauma. The film takes you along with Autumn, a girl who is facing an unintended pregnancy , and her cousin, Skylar, who need to travel across state lines from Philadelphia to New York City in order to get the support needed that is missing in their hometown. Pulling at your heartstrings is not something this movie lacks, for it is such a pure reflection of a real-life human experience. The tender portrayal of this story and friendship by leading ladies Sidney Flanigan and Talia Ryder is slow growing, but so intense and important for ALL people to see.
Never Rarely Sometimes Always deserves a 9 out of ten for its beautiful images of human compassion and intimate expression of these painful realities many people have to struggle with.
