“No Country For Old Men” is an action thriller that is a perfect example of everything a film should be. Set in Texas in the 1980s, the film follows a hunter who soon becomes hunted when he stumbles upon a briefcase filled with $2 million. The film stars Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, and Javier Bardem, who won an Academy Award for best-supporting actor. Bardem’s performance as the cold-blooded psychopath is the clear highlight of the movie, as he portrays Anton Chigurh as this realistic, haunting antagonist that takes away your breath every time he’s on screen. In addition to the unforgettable performances, the writing and directing are impeccable. You can tell how much time and effort was put into crafting the screenplay and plot which I admire. The film is directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, known for their distinct style of filmmaking. They have crafted a tense and gripping thriller, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Another highlight of the film is its cinematography. The wide shots of the Texas landscape add to the elemental themes in the film which directly contrast the intimate close-ups that show the character’s emotions. Finally, the ending of the film is truly flawless. Without spoiling, the movie can be interpreted in many different ways as many questions are left unanswered and the audience is left speechless & provoked. “No Country for Old Men” is a perfect example of a film that won Best Picture at the Oscars that completely deserved it in every way, shape, or form.
